Instead of goodbye, we’ll see you later Darryl!
For many of us here at Sleeman, Darryl Bower is one of our organization’s most recognizable. He’s the face of our Taproom, the person who always asks you how the family is doing or if you caught last night’s game before handing you your case of beer with a friendly “cheers!” Darryl joined the Sleeman team 20 years ago, and after two decades of Sleeman pride, he is leaving us to fulfill his lifelong dream of joining Guelph’s Fire Department. Darryl, your legacy here at Sleeman will continue for years to come. We thank you the excellence of customer service you brought to the business and commend you for your years of volunteer firefighting that have brought you to this moment. Cheers to you!
We caught up with Darryl before he embarked on this next chapter. Read more about our chat here:
How did you end up working at Sleeman in the beginning?
A few friends of mine worked at the brewery, I started one summer on the weekend shift, unloading empty pallets and it was a great summer position while I was in school. There was an opportunity to work in Special Events the following summer, so I jumped on it. Here I am today, 20 years later!
Over your 20 years at the company, what has been the biggest takeaway?
How the company has grown! The breweries that have joined the family have really helped us create a unique portfolio and meanwhile, we’ve also adapted our brands to succeed in such a competitive market.
Tell us about your history with the Guelph Fire Department / what are you most looking forward to?
It is an honour to serve with the Guelph Fire Department in the community where I grew up, where my routes are, where I have worked my entire professional career.
Favourite Sleeman beer?
Sleeman Clear 2.0 is my favourite beer, delicious and refreshing.
What will you miss most about working at Sleeman?
The people, top to bottom its class throughout, all my customers and staff who have helped grow our business… oh and the complimentary beer along the way! I will always and forever be a salesman for this great company, I will miss it. Cheers!
