This year's Future on Tap Scholarship recipients are Dorcas Olatunji, who is entering the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at the University of Ottawa, and Maryam Leclerc, who is entering the Bachelor of Applied Science program at the University of Ottawa.

Through this scholarship, Sleeman aims to help create opportunities for groups that continue to be underrepresented in the brewing industry while empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators.

As part of the application process, students are asked to share how they plan to challenge gender-based stereotypes and biases in their chosen fields and contribute to a more inclusive future. 

Maryam is passionate about encouraging the next generation of women in STEM.  She volunteers with youth through STEM outreach programs, tutoring, and mentorship and has worked and volunteered at the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology. “Some of the most rewarding experiences I have come from encouraging young girls to pursue goals that they thought were never possible,” says Maryam.

For Dorcas, the scholarship represents more than financial support. It is a recognition of the importance of creating opportunities for women in fields where they have historically been underrepresented.

"Scholarships like this matter a great deal to me because they are intended to help women feel seen, especially in a world where women are still too often overlooked, particularly in science," says Dorcas. "Being recognized as a French-speaking woman in this field feels wonderful. Receiving this support will help me make my dreams a reality and knowing there are organizations like Sleeman Breweries that encourage us makes all the difference."

All applications were reviewed by members of the Sleeman Breweries Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. The review panel worked together to select this year’s recipients. The applications provided an inspiring look into the goals, achievements, and aspirations of students across the country who are committed to creating a more equitable future.

We are proud to support Dorcas and Maryam as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in their fields and communities.
