Sleeman Breweries Is one of Canada’s Greenest Employers

“As Canada’s third-largest brewer, we know our actions toward a greener future make a difference,” says Mike Minami, President and CEO. “We are proud to have received this recognition and grateful to our employees for their commitment to environmental initiatives. This award is possible because of their efforts.”

National and local Green Teams at Sleeman Breweries help build awareness and drive change within the organization. The committees run programming for Earth Month in April and Circular Economy Month in October, challenging employees to think green at work and in their communities. Throughout the year, the committees identify ways to continually improve Sleeman Breweries’ green efforts.

The Canada’s Greenest Employer award celebrates several important initiatives at Sleeman Breweries, including the company’s:

• Launch of the Sleeman Better Water Fund
• National Environmental Policy
• Waste diversion rates
• Partnership with BC Hydro and FortisBC to share ideas on energy management, lowering costs, and increasing efficiency
• Energy and Emissions Audit in Calgary to identify energy and greenhouse gas-reduction opportunities
• Recognition from Recyc-Quebec for our recycling initiatives

Sleeman Breweries was also named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers in 2019 and in 2023. “People who apply to work with Sleeman Breweries often ask about our commitment to the environment,” says Linden Gossen, National Environmental Health and Safety Manager. “Applicants are choosing Sleeman Breweries because of our reputation as a green company.”

The recent launch of the Sleeman Better Water Fund has further solidified the company’s commitment to safe and responsible management of natural resources. The annual fund is provided to Canadian non-profit organizations that are creating positive change in our communities in the fields of water conservation and clean water access.
