Sleeman Breweries Marks the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

In Canada, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a time to reflect on Canada’s painful history with its residential school system and to honour the children and families forever changed by it.

At Sleeman Breweries, our core values include a commitment to Getting Better. This means educating our employees on important social issues and making change where we can.

Leading up to this year's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee created learning moments for our employees to help them better understand the importance of September 30. We discussed choices we can make in our own journeys of Truth and Reconciliation and focused on the impact of language. This is valuable learning that we’ll continue all year.

As part of our corporate actions toward Truth and Reconciliation, Sleeman Breweries is donating $10,000 to True North Aid, an organization that serves and supports northern and remote Indigenous communities.

And, for the second year in a row, our DEI committee is hosting an Indigenous Makers Auction for employees. This auction helps support and build awareness of Indigenous artisans across Canada. Proceeds from the auction will also go to True North Aid.

This National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage all Canadians to continue their learning and commit to their own acts of reconciliation.
