Recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Monday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This is an important moment for all Canadians to reflect on our country’s painful history of residential schools and the generational trauma it caused First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.
On Sept. 30, we remember that Every Child Matters.
How Sleeman Breweries is recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Taking action is an important part of reconciliation. Sleeman Breweries’ acts of reconciliation include:
- A $10,000 donation to True North Aid, an organization that supports northern and remote Indigenous communities.
- Hosting an Indigenous Makers Auction for employees, matching the amounts bid in the auction, and donating the total to True North Aid.
- Sharing a Learning Moment at our September Town Hall to further educate our employees on Canada’s history of residential schools.
- Sharing a list of Truth and Reconciliation events on the Okanagan Spring Brewery Instagram channel.
We encourage all Canadians to learn more and to listen on September 30.
